Hip hop, Hip hop anonymous

Recently I have been sent/ have found some amazing productions that I thought I would share with the world. I have a post that spans from New Zealand to Australia and lands right back here on good ol' Vancouver Island. Since I am up so early for work everyday and doing my blog posts before work, there has been an open spot for hip hop, glitch and other super chilled beats.

Funk Ferret, from Auckland New Zealand has been producing up a storm and has a soundcloud page stocked with amazing funk/hip hop, breaks and inventive mashups that will leave you stunned and amazed.

This one is a work in progress but is so nice that it is already forthcoming on Booty Pirates volume 3(to be released later this summer)

Super Boogie Juice - Work in progress by FunkFerret

Be sure to check out some of his other productions, smooth like butter but gangster as all hell.
Enjoy the downloads.

The Influence Of Sunny - Twinset + Jurassic 5 by FunkFerret

I'm not a huge fan of ACDC but when its mahsed with beastie boys.... I gave it a chance and I am VERY glad I did! this would smash dancefloors.

Movin Back In Black by FunkFerret

Heres a little edit of a glitch masterpiece from the ledgendary Slynk! This guy blows me away with that hip hoppy, Nu Funk flavor every time. Be sure to check out the original at Pretty Lights Music.(Albums are free but you SHOULD donate if your downloading and support the artist)

From jazzy liquid DnB, slick mid tempo glitch and the bouncing basslines of speed garage, this is all around a terrific remix EP and am proud to post it on the blog.

You mashed peanut butter in my chocolate

We are all about pushing the funky mashups. So why not bring out something funky from a few different generations of music? Tonight I am pleased to drop some downloads of some of my most favorite mashes/bootlegs in a while.

Matthew Britt is from Minneapolis, United States and is working around the clock to master his skills in production. His love for music shows in his mixes and tracks.

Here is a really fun tune for all of you digital DJs who love working with re edits and funk.
1 part Deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire - Ghosts n Stuff, 1 part The Temptations and 1 part Outkast. Mix thoroughly and enjoy.(Taken from the description, I just couldn't have put it better)

Matthew Britt - Papa's Ghost over Baghdad by Matthew Britt

Speaking of Zenit Incompatible, his newest breaky mash up based off of a live mix is thouroughly enjoyable. I am also really happy to see him putting his imaginative productions and edits out there and sharing them with the world

This summer is amping up to be full of events. Thanks to everyone to came out to Bubble Aid and will support our mission to create a strong love for good funky tunes and good vibes to the world.
We got some sweet tunes for this post, I hope you really enjoy some of these new bombshells.

First off a little bit of The Funk Hunters(The Outlier & Dunks) these guys are mixing up a storm over in Vancouver. I can't wait to see them again someday on the Island or The Shambhala Music Festival this year....... maybe if I could get away from my other responsibilities.

Shake The Room! - The Funk Hunters by The Funk Hunters

Bassnectar - Bass Head (THE FUNK HUNTERS Hands Up REFIX) by THE OUTLIER

Here is Phrases newest mix, this guy is 17 years old and has such a technical understanding of music. He is going places and I am happy to support him. I personally love his live mixes with his continuously growing track selection with hints of those island anthems handed down from some of his super skilled broken beats DJs/Teachers.

Bubble Aid!

It's shaping up to be a pretty busy summer for us at FreakYIslanDStyleY! This weekend we have some of the islands best DJs dropping down to The Funky Bubble to show their support to the place that has supported Duncans music scene and given us all a clean/safe place to party.

Bubble Aid! - Event Page

I also have prepared the most electric of all local blog posts we have seen in a more than quite a while, so you are all in for a treat. lets start things off right with a few free downloads. Please excuse if I posted some of this on either the facebook page or on the blog when these were released. If you haven't heard them before, hit up the downloads :)

Gotta love Drute-z, his high energy mixes and performances blow me away! I personally am not one for fidget but I have nothing but respect for this guy. He always draws a crowd and has always had the ability to keep them dancing for his entire set.

Ginuwine - My Pony (Drute-z's ridin'em bootleg) by Drute-Z

It also has been a while since we have posted anything from DJ Y@ and I think its time for a banger from him. Hes a terrific producer and a great DJ! He has rocked dancefloors all over the island and now I am so excited to have him play at The Funky Bubble for the first time and hopefully more in the future. Enjoy this electro house to dubstep back to electro house remix of La Roux - Bullet Proof..... I sure as hell do!

La Roux - Bulletproof (y@ Remix) by DJY@

God bless bootlegs!
Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl (y@ Rmx) by DJY@

I know, I posted Ben Chemikal on our last blog entry but he is one of our residents and the best 4x4/dubstep producer in Duncan. There isn't much to say but WOW when you hear some of the dubby masterpieces he hunts down/ produces himself.

Tyler Durden! Known for his slick mixes and booty rockin electro and breaks he adds so much to an already huge lineup!

Dirty Dubsters (017) - My Thing by DirtyDubsters

This month, the underground party scene has taken a thrashing given by the Duncan RCMP. There has been two events that have been shut down early. They say "These parties are giving Canada a bad name during the olympics." When in all reality Vancouver is hours away from us, no one from another country is going to ditch the olympics to go to a bush party in Duncan. Most importantly of all though, a vibrant music scene shows a special, more home-made culture. In europe electronic music is enjoyed by young and old and an integral part of their culture.

By forcing over 200 people to leave a venue at the same time in my opinion is a horrible idea, even with our newer security crew, the police were not having it. so they forced hundreds of kids with no way off the mountain until 6 am, no rides, no compassion, no real respect for the youth of the island and the worst job of policing I have ever seen. There was no thought put forth by the RCMP, there more than likely was intoxicated people forced to drive home, forced to break the law.

Doesn't that make Canada look bad? An unorganized bunch of policemen forcing people to drive home more than likely drunk?? forcing them to hitch hike? forcing them to walk an hour back to Duncan in THE POURING RAIN????

YES it does, a group of people having a good safe time on private property does not. RCMP I am very dissapointed in your judgment, lack of care for your fellow man and FORCING kids to break laws just to get home. If there was a drinking related car accident, my blame would not have been on the driver but the people who forced this driver to leave early.

Ok, I am done ranting. You may have thought I would post some NWA in light of my rant.
No, I would prefer to post a tune by our own Charles King. It makes me happier after being mad :)

DAFT PUNK - HARDER, BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER (CHARLES KING BOOTLEG) by Charles King

Enjoy everyone!
P.s Our logo is in the making, as well as J-Gib promotions. Grass Roots flyers are in the works and Superfriends 3 flyers will probably be done by the end of the month!

I know I started the youtube channel based on helping our local producers, these two tracks are just too infectious to keep from immortalizing on youtube! After all this music captures a special part of the island vibe and vocalized it.

local disco love

Y@ sent me a new track last night, an insane remix of Shiny Toy Guns. It has been a while since I have posted anything without a broken beat. Right on Y@, keep up these productions and you will go further than you ever dreamed.

This is the first local production I have ever released the download for. He asked me to share it and rightfully so, this track should be on everyones mp3 player. For today, I will post only the streaming and download link. Don't worry this track will be immortalized on the FreakYIslanDStyleY youtube channel but a soundcloud stream vs. a youtube stream.... No comparison on quality of sound.

Now for a bit of an older set of his, its really enjoyable. Personally I love the electro sounds of a few years ago.

y@ -Scrambled Eggs

Funk and Disco are two very similar genres. I can barely keep strait half the time. Genres, sub-genres and the sub-genres of sub-genres and classifying all of this can be a little confusing sometimes. So I appologize if I incorrectly label a track or set by genre.

This however is truly, truly funky music by Jpod of the Stickypod Connection.

For all the mainstreamers who might be reading, don't worry the dubstep will be back. Dubstep, its been around for years and years as an underground genre and to give some tempo change to an otherwise regular set. Will dubstep still be around in a year or two? Yes but not played as much which might add to its intensity and bring back the love I once had for it.

Ok fine, since I am old school I will post an older dubstep track that didn't get really popular until everyone jumped on this dubstep bandwagon. Its a good track, and mixes really well with the wobble of the dubstep being produced today.

Loefah - Disko Rekah

Enjoy every one, and expect to see that Y@ track on youtube very soon.

Cheers

Groovin? Good

So, many of you may have thought that I was going easy on the blog. You are wrong, I will still be going strong while getting a few events planned. Such as the FreakYIslanDStyleY stage at superfriends.

I have a re-found love for funk and my love for breaks hasn't dwindled. Over my time trying to find you all new tunes to enjoy, I remembered Goodgroove Records and all the talent that they have on their roster. First off I have to throw down some DJ Wood for the first mix of the new year.

DJ Wood - De Ting Continues

If you like any funky breaks you will love the tunes from all the other guys from Goodgroove Records. I need to throw down a few links before I throw any more tunes down. You could find music for days on these sites.

Goodgroove on FB has some mixes and updates on events

http://www.woodnsoo.com/ A bunch of funky mixes, events and more

Now for a few producers I found from Australia, still under the Goodgroove label but I love the tunes.

Slynk on FB he posted a direct link to his soundcloud page on this fansite.(Become A Fan)

Busta on FB Also has a soundcloud link. I love his music (Become A Fan)

Sorry, no download on this. Looks like you have to buy it if you want it. I love this remix though!
